Biology

biology screenshot

This is another original design (well, ok, it’s another variation on one I did for livejournal) that’s been sitting around for a while now waiting to be uploaded. You can see a full-size version on the test blog, at least until I start testing other stuff out :). WordPress.com custom css users, cut-and-paste biology.txt into your custom css box and you’re good to go. Got Sandbox installed on your own domain? You’ll be wanting the zip.

edited to add: I forgot to mention that this style is compatible with the existing Sandbox layouts, so rather than selecting ‘no style’ you need to pick the number of columns you want from under the ‘Sandbox Skins’ tab. Yes, you read right: you can pick the number of columns on this one. You paid $15 and I’m trying to ensure you get value for money ;)

This is fantastic. It’s exactly what I was looking for to modify a bit. It’s so pretty I feel like a jackass wanting to change anything about it though. :(

I’m really enjoying this theme, except that I really really want to add menus. Is there a way I can do this?

Do you have any tips on using this design now that they’ve removed the skin tab in WP? I’d love to use it, but I can’t figure out how to alter the code in order for it to work. I managed to get it to pull the style.css file, but it displays all in one column.

    Thanks!

Thanks for letting me know: are you on wordpress.com or your own install? I still see the ’sandbox skins’ tab on my dashboard here, but they may be in the process of updating to the latest version. It’s very hard to get any information out of them. :(

I’m on my own install. Right now I’m using WordPress v2.0.11 and Sandbox v0.9.5. I found the info on the change with the skin tab on the Sandbox forum here:

I love your designs for this year’s contest, btw. That’s how I found this site and this design.

Oh good, that makes it easier. The skins are still there in 0.9, they’re just accessed differently. Updated instructions:

    1. Upload the ‘biology’ directory to wp-themes/sandbox
    2. Directly below the skin information in style.css, copy and paste the following:

    @import url('../sandbox-layouts/3c-b.css')

That would give you the three-column layout in the screenshot. To switch layout structure, edit 3c-b to one of the following:

1c-b: 1 content column with 2 sidebars at the bottom
    2c-r: 2 columns, right sidebar
    2c-l: 2 columns, left sidebar
3c-r: 3 columns, sidebars on right
3c-l: 3 columns, sidebars on left

Hope that helps! I haven’t tested the old layouts in 0.9 yet so do let me know if anything is obviously broken.
